Summer hive checking
See this cheeky bee making a bee photobomb!
It’s been a changeable summer – sure you have noticed too! Sunny and breezy, rainy and stormy. The bees are dealing with the late blossoms and restricted growth. Important tree flowers came in late, but the blackberries are flowering early already!
Some hives have been split, some need more building up. We lost one swarm during haymaking, it went to the top of an ash tree about 25 metres up and from there who knows where?
On the farm, wildflower meadows are sown, the new fruit and nut orchard is thriving, the scent of newly cut grass is everywhere. Ailbhe has finished correcting agricultural students’ reports, and is looking forward to more time on the farm.
