Field Exchange Insights

Ten farmers have joined a dedicated Community of Practice. They will focus on sustainable farming practices and skill-building. Over two years, they have creatively addressed the challenges through a Field Exchange Days meeting over a series of 6 events and in our Harvest Gatherings.

Our capacity-building workshops and visits will offer a unique blend of knowledge, creativity, and community, empowering you to implement positive changes on your farm and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient rural future.

Who’s involved

We have partnered with the Irish Agroforestry Ireland Forum (IAF) and the Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland (DSWAI) together with artists’ interventions with artists Ackroyd & Harvey, Uta Kögelsberger, Esther Gerrard (Elements of Action), Gerardine Williams Wisdom.

Shorter interventions during the gatherings will be curated, including The Company of Trees, a new music and spoken word performance by Philip Dodd, Bairbre NiChoimh, and Michael James Ford.
Field Exchange is the recipient of the inaugural Creative Climate Action Fund, an initiative by Creative Ireland in collaboration with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications that supports creative, cultural and artistic projects that build awareness around climate change and empower citizens to make meaningful behavioural transformations.

2024 -2025 Artworks

Field Exchange 2024 showcases transformative art intertwining with agriculture:

  • Ackroyd & Harvey explore the intersection of history and ecology through photosynthesis artworks and a circular tree planting.
  • “The Company of Trees” is a musical and literary celebration of trees’ life cycles and impacts.
  • Esther Gerrard from Elements of Action collaborates with the Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland on moss wall installations that blend nature with architecture.
