Field Exchange 2022

Bones of the Farm – Dry Stone Wall

New exchange

“I feel more knowledgeable about talking to others about climate issues and farming.”

Bones of the Farm – Dry Stone Wall provided participants with hands-on experience on building their own Dry Stone Wall! Stone Walls provide a number of key structural solutions on farms. The practice and knowledge of how to build dry stone walls  has died out – due to other types of fencing emerging. Dry stone walling is an art form that is gaining interest again. However, there is a lack of knowledge in how to properly build these structures. The Irish form of Dry Stone Wall is unique – during this exchange participants learnt a series of skills including basic skills in dry stone walling and understanding the full benefits of walls on the farm.
